Happy new year!

On December 31, 2012, in Blog, by Guillaume Gète

2013 is there, and I guess it was the right time to give Lion DiskMaker its own web site. I’ve always said I was really, really impressed by its success, and still am. It grew so much, that I felt it was really a bit cramped on my other blog, where I mainly blog in French. So, now Lion DiskMaker will live here, you will be able to get updates from this site, and I hope to update this blog regularly.

Please note that the Italian and Spanish version of the site have not been imported yet. I plan to do it quite soon.

I took this opportunity to upgrade Lion DiskMaker to version 2.0.2. If you encountered some hdiutil error previously, please get this new version.

And I am working on a new version right now, with a few neat features (if I manage to make them work…).

Don’t forget you can also get updates on Lion DiskMaker on Twitter ! Just follow @liondiskmaker.

Again, a very happy new year to everyone!

    Merci Guillaume,

Hello: I think some of my Mac’s System files (Lion Installation) may have been corrupted or accidentally deleted through time, and I would like to Reinstall Lion, but would like to preserve my current applications and data (pictures, music, docs, and so on) – So I don’t have to reinstall all my Apps, and preserve my files. Lion Installer supposedly let you Reinstall the System Files (Mac OS X) without Erasing your Hard Drive, while maintaining intact your third party Apps and user data, but the problem seems to be that Reinstalling involves the following; A) you must have handy your Network Name + Password (because it seems to be that Reinstalling (without erasing data) it is Only Possible while using a Wi-Fi connection, and B) you must also provide your Apple ID User Name + Password at some point of the process. The problem is, I will have to wait for the whole 4 GB Lion Installer to be downloaded Again, if I want to Reinstall Lion’s System Files (OS X) so it can replace corrupted or deleted OS X Files (without erasing third party Apps or user data)

I already created an OS X Bootable Disk, but it looks it is Not Possible to Reinstall OS X System Files Only (without Erasing everything on my Mac’s Hard Drive – Prior Installation.

It looks, it is only possible to do a Reinstall of OS X System files “Only” (without erasing third party Apps and user data) if using Wi-Fi + Apple credentials. In other words; Having already a Bootable OSX Disk, DVD or USB, Does Not give you the option to Reinstall Only Lion’s System Files, but instead, the only given option, is to Fully Erase the Hard Drive.

Do you know if there is a way, to use a Bootable OS X Disk, to perform a Lion Re-installation, while preserving third party apps and user data?

As I mention before, it looks it is Only Possible to do a Reinstall of Lion’s System files (Without completely erasing the Hard Drive) if using the Wi-Fi Method, because OS X Recovery Only seems to work through the Wi-Fi Method – but Not from a Bootable OS X Disk.

Any advice will be Highly Appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Lucas.

By the way, here is the link to Apple Support Website, stating it is “Only” possible to use the Recovery Option, to Reinstall Lion’s System Files, while keeping existing user data, but “Only” if using the Wi-Fi Method (Not a Bootable DVD or USB:

    Thanks for your time.
